Dearest, Darling, husband,

Thank you for the present I bought myself you bought me, vicariously, for our 20th wedding anniversary.

It’s uncanny, really, how I know just what you’d buy me, if you’d found it first how you know just what I’d like.

I mean, I never put “dusty, perfect, antique, cobalt blue kerosene lamp” on my list, but there it was at a random garage sale but you found it, thought of me, brought it home, and watched my face light up.  (Like a lamp, ironically!)

And the price.  It pleases us, precious.  Both of us, precious.*  (Five American Dollah.)

Thank you, honey.  I love my purchase your awesome gift.

I can’t wait to show it to you when you come home from work tonight revel with you over the marvelous way our minds work alike.  We are truly two peas in a pod, one heart, one soul, one mind.

And thank you for twenty incredible years of marriage.  Who knew that twenty years could pass so swiftly?  Maybe that’s because with you, life is SWEET.

Forever yours,

Holly

*my apologies to Golum.

Our anniversary was actually about two weeks ago, and we celebrated. :) We just have become quite notoriously bad about buying gifts for each other….

    Bizarre.

Hey…you got your sense of humor from me. Don’t knock it.

Thanks for the laugh, Holly! It’s all about what works, right? My birthday present was a used serger, a machine that I’d been wanting for many years. I found it on the online classifieds, worked everything out with the owner, and all my Beloved had to do was pick it up and bring it home. We were both happy with the arrangement, although I’d wager some of my friends felt sorry for me. To each their own. *smile*

Oh, yeah, Michelle. It’s what works. :) It’s funny how things that used to be such a *big deal* to me kind of went away after 8 years. I think we thought we’d take a cruise for our ten year, and definitely a BIG trip for a twentieth. But then, we probably thought we’d be “too old” to travel when we were forty. :)

Seriously, *stuff* just doesn’t mean so much at this point. We had a great anniversary, probably one of my favorite ever. We had a long afternoon date, walking through ethnic markets and thrift stores, then went to a Thai restaurant for our first taste of Thai cuisine. Lots of talk, lots of laughter and memories. Neither one of us can believe how quickly 20 years has past. (And wow, neither one of us can believe we are forty!)

Jeff’s given me so many wonderful things over the years – there just was nothing that I needed at the time. He really *would* have picked up the lamp for me if he saw how much I enjoyed it. I have been *eyeing* some at the Amish store that look much the same and run around $50.

And really…now that I think about it, he picked out socks for his birthday. We have become waaaay too practical. :)

Oh. For our first anniversary he bought me mixing bowls. I pouted for a month, at least. :)

  6. Holly Says:

And Michelle, congrats on the Serger! I’d love a gift like that, too!

    Cute!!
